![]() The first batch of MIPSS Grade 6 graduates. Graduation Day 1990. Mary Immaculate Parish Special School started as a day care center
during the term of Rev. Fr. Colin Apap and Rev. Fr. Victor Agius,
the first parish priest and assistant parish priest of MIP,
respectively. During their leadership in 1984, they tapped the
following people to manage this little day care center: Mrs Alay
Gamban who was followed by Mrs. Cecille de la Cruz,
the person who tried to secure a permit from the DECS after being under
the care of National Federations of Women's Clubs (NFWC). It started in
1984 as a regular day care center. Some of the teachers who handled the
classes were the following: Mrs. Maria Bella V. Hernandez, Mrs.
Marcelina Ramos and Mrs. Susie Manuel who were all public school
teachers in Manila.
Mainstreaming or Integration, now called Inclusion, is one of the
features offered by the school in special education. We have a
program for partial and full inclusion. In partial inclusion, the special children are combined with the students in the regular classes in some particular subjects and go back to the special education center for the rest of the day. In full inclusion, the special children stay in the regular classes the whole day. They are also taught the same skills but in lower level or with different presentation. Regular consultation with the teachers is done by the special teachers to ensure that the needs of the special children in their classes are met. In 1991, Rev. Fr. Pierino Rogliardi challenged Fr. Fidel G. Fabile, Mrs. Valeria B. Manguba and Mrs. Maria Bella V. Hernandez to take charge of the school. They were assigned as the Executive Director, Administrator and Principal, respectively. Under their supervision, the enrolment of the school had a tremendous increase. In 1994, the High School Department was opened. ![]() The burgeoning
students population prompted the school to keep with the recent
development in education premost information
technology. In the school year 2002-2003, a building for the elementary level was added. It is a three-storey building with twelve open classrooms. Aside from the three-storey building, the library was improved to develop among students interest and love for books through reading. It has been observed that the number of students going to the library increased. After twenty years of existence , there are already a lot of accomplishment by the school in various fields. Three teachers have been recognized in their fields of specialization. Mrs. Maria Terry Trino received the Sedes Sapientiae Award as the Most Outstanding Teacher of MAPSA (Manila Archdiocesan Parochial Schools Association ) in the SY 2001-2002. Ms. Rosario V. Dava was awarded as an outstanding Interact Club Adviser. Interact Club is a program of Rotary International wherein MIPSS has been an active member since SY 1999 to SY 2005. One of MIPSS high school students, Gerard Christian Atienza , was the first runner-up in the LG Quiz, a national television quiz bee, in the year 2001-2002. MIPSS is the winner in the IT Quiz Bee sponsored by AMA College for three consecutive years. The well-known MIPSS Drum and Lyre Corps has been the champion in the MTV Drum Line and Cheer the Line Contest winning one hundred fifty thousand pesos and thirty thousand pesos, respectively. The special children are also given opportunity to compete in different contest held at La Salle Zobel , Elsie Gaches Village and Las Pinas City. They received various awards in the developmental, athletic and ball games. One of our graduates, Jonel Enorme, is now famous in ice skating. In spite of his disabilities he won gold medals in his field not only in the Philippines but also in other part of the world. The school again gained recognition when Mrs. Bella Hernandez, (principal s.y. 1991-2006) earned one of the highest award in the Philippine education organized by DEPED and Avon. She awarded the outstanding principal of the Philippines, "GINTONG ILAWAN" Special education Category. To date, MIPSS has received numerous blessings from the Divine providence, aside from the gifts of students, the Elementary department has earned its DEPED recognition as distinct from SPED recognition. The Elementary, SPED and Administrative building have been completed; amenities have been improved to better serve the needs of our clientele. All these laurels were earned due to the holistic approach that the school has in the development of the students spirituality, mentality, emotionally, and physically and the commitment, cooperation, support, guidance, love and care that the administration and the faculty have. MIPSS grew and still growing. In fact, in one full swing, the canteen, AVR, computer laboratories and the library were constructed to suit the students need. In 2010, MIPSS subscribed to three frameworks, the Understanding By Design, the Whole Brain Learning System and the Religion as the Core of the Curriculum. The framework intensifies facilitation of students learning not only mentally but also in practice. MIPSS being faithful to its charisma of Unity, witnesses and lives its three pillars, that is a God-Centered, Academically Excellent and Socially Responsible Educational Institution. |
